Critical Thinking and Reading Skills
My older children love to read mysteries... and I have to admit that it is my favorite thing to read also. We read Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, and other mystery series. It boosts their critical thinking and problem solving skills and it is fun to discuss the details at the dinner table. I also look for mystery books at the library and bookstores. Many times they have them in the clearance sections. I look for several short mini-mysteries in one book.
